A quieter side of Japan, selected for you.

A collection of five objects from the quieter side of everyday life in Japan.

This box brings together things that feel familiar here, but may be less familiar outside Japan — objects chosen for their craftsmanship, usefulness, material, regional character or simply the quiet pleasure of living with them.

Rather than preparing identical boxes in advance, we select the individual pieces in Japan after your order.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Every Quiet Japan Box is selected from the same five categories:

1. Japanese Ceramic Cup
A yunomi or similar everyday drinking vessel from a Japanese potter, kiln or maker. We look for character in the clay, glaze, shape and way it feels in the hand.

Example shown: a handcrafted glazed yunomi.

2. Small Japanese Ceramic Dish
A mamezara, small plate, bowl or similar piece of Japanese tableware. A modest object designed for everyday use, selected for its craftsmanship and individual character.

Example shown: a small artisan ceramic dish with a hand-painted botanical motif.

3. Japanese Textile
A tenugui or another small, useful Japanese textile. Depending on what we find, it may feature traditional dyeing, regional patterns, contemporary Japanese design or the work of a particular maker.

Example shown: an indigo-patterned cotton tenugui.

4. Small Japanese Craft or Folk Object
A small craft object selected from Japan's many regional and everyday traditions. This may include woodwork, folk craft, a lucky object or another small handmade piece with a connection to its maker or place.

Example shown: a small daruma.

5. Japanese Paper & Stationery
A paper object that reflects Japan's unusually rich culture of paper, printing and stationery. This may include a greeting card, letter paper, washi, paper craft or another thoughtfully made paper item.

Example shown: a dimensional Japanese paper-art greeting card.

SELECTED AFTER YOUR ORDER

The five categories above remain consistent, so you know the kind of box you are choosing.

The individual products, however, are selected after your order and will vary with the season, availability, makers, regions and what we discover in Japan at that time.

The photographs show examples, not a fixed set.

A ceramic piece might come from a small kiln we encounter. A textile might be a seasonal design available only for a short time. A small craft may come from a particular region or maker. When we find something with more character, a better story or a stronger connection to the idea of the box, that is what we want to send you.

If you have a preference within any of the five categories, leave us a note with your order.
For example, you might prefer a certain color, style, material or type of object. We cannot guarantee a specific product, but we will keep your request in mind when selecting your box.

FIVE OBJECTS, SELECTED IN JAPAN FOR YOU.

No two Quiet Japan Boxes need to be exactly alike.

What stays the same is the idea behind the box: five categories, five thoughtfully chosen objects, and a small glimpse into the quieter side of everyday Japan.
